LightSquared gets satellite waiver – A bird in the air is worth ignoring-Satellite phones. The marginally insane plan for a US-spanning mobile network using frequencies reserved for satellite is looking more likely, thanks to an FCC decision that handsets won’t have to be satellite-capable.
NASA seeks Amateur Radio operators’ aid
The US Space Agency NASA has asked for the help of Amateur Radio operators to help in receiving the signal from NanoSail-D on 437.270MHz.
The NASA Press release says:
Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 11:30 a.m. EST, engineers at Marshall SpacemFlight Center in Huntsville, Ala., confirmed that the NanoSail-D nanosatellite [...]
NASA’s NanoSail-D is expected to test a type of propulsion that taps the momentum of photons in sunlight. Advocates say solar sails provide the best way toward interstellar travel.
A new NASA craft is due to set sail, literally, Thursday night. What’s more, it hopes to be unfurling its sail in outer space.

This is a pretty awesome wind generator! Futuristic design and efficient power production!
The Skystream 3.7 Wind Turbine is the latest solution for an all purpose wind turbine to power your household electrical needs for grid tied applications only.
First all inclusive wind generator with controls
Designed to provide quiet, clean electricity [...]
Misaligned vx-7r – Not really sure what I did but my vx-7r is out of alignment and is picking up interference (voices barely breaking squelch but distinctly talking/dispatch). This pains me as I love this radio and use it EVERYDAY in dual band mode (monitoring two bands with scanning). Thus I broke out this procedure… [...]
New Amateur Radio Bill Introduced in Congress
The Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Enhancement Act, which died at the end of the 111th Congress, has been reintroduced in the 112th Congress as HR 81. The sponsor is Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX-18). The new bill — which was introduced on January 5 — has been referred [...]
Vertical axis wind turbines from Urban Green Energy-redefining what a wind energy turbine looks like
The Eddy from Urban Green Energy looks like your average vertical axis wind turbine but is far from it. Low cut in speed and solid power output make this a contender for a the home generating market.
But at just under [...]
Italian amateur radio repeaters disregard IARU bandplan
In Italy, FM and D-Star repeaters are being licensed in the 2m IARU Amateur Satellite segment 145.8-146.0MHz causing considerable interference to Amateur Radio Satellites and the International Space Station.
It would appear that the Italian regulator permits repeaters anywhere within 2m on a provisional basis for 60 days. [...]
Icom IC-910H VHF/UHF multimode transceiver
Can I just say ARGGGGGG!
important note: this model is being replaced by the IC-9100 HF/UHF/VHF/1.2 all mode, as soon as the FCC approves the ic9100, the shack will grow.
Back to the IC-910h, I want one of these so bad and everytime I get close [...]
