Large earthquake rattles coast of Peru

A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck just off the coast of Peru today ratting the nearby towns.  The earthquake was centered off Peru’s central coast has rattled Peru’s capital but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.  No tsunami alert was issued for this earthquake.

The U.S. Geological Survey says it was centered 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Ica at a depth of 9.2 miles (15 kilometers). The location is 186 miles (299 kilometers) southwest of Lima.
